FIFA World Cup

The World Cup is the international tournament football male national team at the world's largest. Its current official name is World Cup FIFA in honor of the institution that organizes the event, though it receives the simpler names World Cup or World Cup, not including the name of sport. There are also other competitions which are also World Cup finals, among which the FIFA Women's World Cup , the FIFA World U-20 , and the World Cup FIFA U-17 , the three organized by FIFA.


This sporting event is held every four years since 1930 , with the exception of the years 1942 and 1946 , which was suspended due to World War II .There are two main stages: a qualifying process involving currently about 200 national teams and a final phase takes place every four years in a defined headquarters involving 32 teams for a period close to a month. The NCAA Tournament is a single sporting event in the world discipline (the final of the FIFA World Cup 2002 was watched by more than 1,100 million people).

The FIFA World Cup has been held 18 times, in which seven countries have lifted the cup: Brazil is the most successful team with five victories, Italy , the current champion, followed with four trophies, while Germany has three, Uruguay and Argentina have won twice, while England and France have called a one-time champions.
The tournament has a strong domination of the teams Europeans and South Americans , every continent has won the title nine times and only two teams from other confederations of them have reached the semifinals. In addition, Brazil has been the only team to have won on the continent (in 1958 and 2002 ).
The last World Cup was held on June 9 and July 9 of 2006 in Germany. Italy was crowned champion after beating France on penalties 5:3 releases after 1-1 draw in regular time.
